INDIGIQUEER AND STILL HERE

Picture
Hailey Tayathy is a kʷoʔli•yot̕ (Quileute) drag queen living in the dxʷdəwʔabš territory (Seattle). As Seattle's premier Native American drag queen Hailey uses their queer Indigenous experiences to inform their unique form of drag.

Having grown up in urban environments in the c̓himacum and sqʷaliabš territories I grew up adjacent to kʷoʔliyot̕ land, but away from the reservation. Growing up in an urban environment, where finding a Native community let alone a queer Native community, can be challenging caused me to pursue the art of drag. Hailey Tayathy provides a visible representation to Natives and non-Natives alike that queer Indigenous people exist and that queer Indigeneity is more beautiful than the colonized mind can comprehend.
